Ball Check Valve Type RB105 — Flanged Backflow Preventer for Wastewater

The ball check valve type RB105 is a backflow preventer with a free-floating aluminium ball. The ball carries an NBR coating. During forward flow it lifts clear of the seat and opens the full pipe cross-section. On reverse flow it seals reliably against the seat. This flanged ball check valve covers nominal sizes DN50 to DN500. It is available at pressure ratings PN10 and PN16. The maximum operating temperature is +70 °C. The body in ductile cast iron EN-GJS-400-15 (GGG40) is designed for particle-laden and contaminated media. Typical applications include wastewater lifting plants, municipal sewage systems, stormwater treatment and industrial drainage. FERGO supplies the non-return ball valve in two pressure ratings ex stock. On request, the valve ships pre-assembled with an actuator.

Technical Data and Connection

The ball check valve is available in thirteen nominal sizes. They range from DN50 to DN500. Pressure ratings are PN10 (DN50–DN500) and PN16 (DN200–DN500). All flange connections conform to EN 1092-2. In addition, the face-to-face dimension follows EN 558-1 series 48. The maximum operating temperature is +70 °C. During forward flow the free-floating ball clears the entire pipe bore. As a result, solids, fibres and suspended particles pass without obstruction.

Materials and Sealing

The body of the GGG40 check valve is made of ductile cast iron EN-GJS-400-15. This material is mechanically robust and resistant to pressure surges. The check ball consists of aluminium with an NBR (nitrile rubber) coating. The NBR coating seals reliably against the body seat. Moreover, it resists wastewater, sludge and mildly oily media. The cover gasket is also NBR. Thanks to this material combination, the ball check valve wastewater suits municipal and industrial applications handling solids-laden media.

Applications and Ordering

The backflow preventer ball protects wastewater lifting plants to EN 12050 reliably against reverse flow. The same applies to pumping stations, stormwater inlets and industrial drainage lines. The free-floating ball prevents blockages caused by solids, fibres and suspended matter. This gives a decisive advantage over swing or disc check valves in contaminated media.
