Wafer Check Valve RK100 – Backflow Prevention in Multiple Materials
The RK100 series wafer check valve prevents reverse flow of liquids and gases in industrial
pipelines. The compact wafer design is installed between two flanges – no additional bolting
or welding required. Face-to-face length conforms to
DIN EN 558.
Key technical data:
- Nominal sizes: DN32 to DN600
- Flange connection: PN6, PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40, ANSI Class 150 and Class 300
- Designs: with or without spring return
- Body materials: stainless steel 1.4408, carbon steel 1.0619 galvanised, aluminium bronze 2.0975, aluminium – Hastelloy and Duplex on request
- Disc: stainless steel 1.4408/1.4581 (standard)
- Seat materials: EPDM, NBR, Viton, PTFE or metal-to-metal
Material Options – From Stainless Steel to Aluminium Bronze
The RK100 non-return valve is available in five material families – each for specific
applications:
- Stainless steel 1.4408: universal use in chemical, food and process industries
- Galvanised carbon steel 1.0619: cost-effective solution for general industrial applications with clean media
- Aluminium bronze 2.0975: excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and marine environments
- Aluminium (spring-loaded only): lightweight design for HVAC and ventilation applications
- Hastelloy and Duplex: special alloys for aggressive chemistry – available on request
Spring-Loaded vs. Gravity Return – Comparing the Two Designs
The RK100 wafer check valve is available in two functional designs:
- Without spring return: The disc closes by gravity and back-pressure.
Installation only horizontal or vertical with upward flow. Suitable for slow processes without
water hammer risk. - With spring return: The spring assists rapid closing regardless of
orientation. The reduced closing stroke protects against water hammer and is ideal for pump
installations with frequent start-stop cycles.
Seat Materials and Temperature Ranges
The seat material is selected according to media and operating temperature:
- EPDM: −10 °C to +120 °C – water, air, aqueous media
- NBR: −10 °C to +90 °C – oils, greases, fuels
- Viton (FKM): −10 °C to +150 °C – acids, hydrocarbons, higher temperatures
- PTFE: −10 °C to +200 °C – aggressive chemistry, universal resistance
- Metal-to-metal: −25 °C to +300 °C – steam, high-temperature processes
Applications for the Wafer Check Valve
The non-return valve RK100 is used across a wide range of industrial piping applications:
- Chemical and petrochemical process plants
- Water and wastewater treatment
- HVAC, heating and cooling systems
- Food and pharmaceutical industries
- Pump stations and pressure boosting systems
- Shipbuilding, marine and seawater applications (aluminium bronze)
- General plant engineering
