AUMA Multi-Turn Actuators – Electric actuators for butterfly valves, gate valves, and ball valves
The AUMA quarter-turn actuator is an electric actuator for the automation of butterfly valves, ball valves, and other industrial quarter-turn valves. AUMA actuators of the SA, SAR, SQ, and SQR series cover torques from 10 Nm to over 32,000 Nm and are suitable for both ON/OFF and modulating operation. All series achieve protection class IP68 according to EN 60529 and are designed for ambient temperatures from –30°C to +70°C. For potentially explosive atmospheres, the ATEX versions SAEx, SQEx, and SQREx are available. Series Overview: SA, SAR, SQ, and SQR
AUMA actuators are divided into multi-turn and quarter-turn actuators. The SA series is an AUMA multi-turn actuator for ON/OFF operation (S2-15 min), while the SAR series is a multi-turn actuator for modulating operation (S4-25%, Class C according to EN 15714-2). The AUMA SQ is an electric quarter-turn actuator with a self-locking gearbox for ON/OFF operation of butterfly and ball valves — the AUMA SQR is the modulating version for proportional control tasks. All series operate with 400 V / 50 Hz three-phase current, insulation class F, and mechanical position indicators. Models SA07.2 to SA48.1 and SQ05.2 to SQ14.2 cover the entire torque range.
Technical Data and Protection Class
The electric butterfly valve actuator and electric ball valve actuator from AUMA achieve protection class IP68 according to EN 60529 — suitable for continuous underwater use. The operating temperature range is –30°C to +70°C for standard versions. End position detection is carried out via mechanical limit switches (one each for Open and Closed), supplemented by torque switches in both directions. A handwheel allows for manual emergency operation on every electric valve actuator. Connection flanges are designed according to DIN ISO 5211 for direct mounting on butterfly valves, ball valves, and quarter-turn valves. The electrical connection is made via AUMA round plug connectors with screw terminals. The color is AUMA silver-grey (RAL 7037), with KS corrosion protection (standard).
ATEX Versions and Explosion-Proof Actuators
For use in potentially explosive atmospheres, AUMA offers the SAEx, SQEx, and SQREx series with ignition protection type Ex de IIC T4 (T3) according to ATEX 2014/34/EU (Group 2, Category 1). The ATEX models use three PTC thermistors (140°C) for temperature protection and a double seal between the switch compartment and the actuator interior. The ambient temperature range is –30°C to +40°C or +60°C depending on the model. The electrical connection is made via explosion-proof KT/KP plug connectors. The ATEX quarter-turn actuators SQEx05.2 to SQEx14.2 are suitable for ball valves and butterfly valves in the chemical, oil and gas industries, and biogas plants.
