Product Overview

Plug Valves: Robust Shut-Off for Demanding Media

A plug valve shuts off the flow with a tapered or cylindrical plug that rotates a quarter turn on its axis. The plug seals against a large cylindrical face inside the body. Consequently the valve keeps a tight seal even when the medium is viscous, abrasive or prone to crystallisation — conditions that quickly destroy soft seats in a ball valve. The comparison with a ball valve therefore comes down to the medium, not the size.

Fergo supplies Flowserve Durco plug valves in two design families. The Sleeveline series (G4E, G4Z, G411, G431) combines a metal body with a PFA sleeve between the plug and the body. The PFA-lined T4E series (T4E1, T4E2, T4E3) fully lines a ductile iron GGG40.3 body with PFA and encapsulates the plug. Both families cover DN15 to DN150. Connections follow DIN EN 1092-1 (PN16 up to PN40) as well as ASME B16.5 Class 150 and Class 300.

Plug valves serve chemical and petrochemical processing, pharmaceutical production, pulp and paper, dye and pigment lines and any process with viscous, abrasive or crystallising media. Many models carry the TA-Luft approval, and selected versions are additionally Fire Safe. Fergo delivers the valves with hand lever, gearbox, pneumatic or electric actuator on request. Actuator mounting follows ISO 5211.

01 Sleeveline Plug Valves G4E — DIN Design

The Durco G4E plug valve covers DN15 to DN150 at PN16 and PN40. Body and plug are made of stainless steel 1.4408 (CF8M) or carbon steel 1.0619. A PFA sleeve separates the plug from the body and seals reliably even after many cycles. Flange connections follow DIN EN 1092-1, and face-to-face lengths follow the EN 558-1 series 1 (ISO 5752). All G4E models carry TA-Luft approval for emission-relevant plant.

02 Sleeveline Plug Valves G4Z, G411 and G431 — ANSI Design

For international installations Fergo supplies Sleeveline plug valves to ASME B16.5 Class 150 and Class 300. The G411 (Class 150) and G431 (Class 300) cover ½″ to 8″ with a reduced bore, while the G4Z additionally offers a Fire Safe design with metallic secondary sealing. Face-to-face length follows ASME B16.10, and the flange face is Raised Face (RF). This range therefore suits refineries, petrochemical plants and safety-critical service.

03 PFA-Lined Plug Valves T4E1, T4E2 and T4E3

For highly corrosive media Fergo supplies PFA lined plug valves of the T4E series. The body is ductile iron GGG40.3 with a full PFA lining, and the plug is entirely PFA-encapsulated. The T4E2 follows the DIN standard (PN16, DN15 to DN150) as a short pattern, the T4E1 uses ANSI Class 150 (½″ to 14″), and the T4E3 provides ANSI Class 300 for higher pressures. Together with the wider PFA lined valves programme, the T4E completes the corrosion-resistant portfolio.

Body and Plug Materials

1. Stainless Steel 1.4408 / CF8M (G4E, G4Z, G411, G431)

  • Application: chemical and pharmaceutical processing, pulp and paper, food, chloride-loaded media, seawater and offshore installations
  • Temperature: −20 °C to +200 °C (sleeve dependent)
  • Advantages: high corrosion resistance through molybdenum, hygienic surface, dimensionally stable at PN40 and Class 300
  • Limitations: higher material cost than steel, longer lead time on larger sizes

2. Carbon Steel 1.0619 (G4E and G4Z body option)

  • Application: hydrocarbons, solvents, process gases, refineries and petrochemical service in non-corrosive media
  • Temperature: −20 °C to +200 °C
  • Advantages: high mechanical strength, economical alternative to stainless, proven in Fire Safe designs
  • Limitations: unsuitable for acids, alkalis or chloride-loaded media without additional protection

3. Ductile Iron GGG40.3 with PFA Lining (T4E1, T4E2, T4E3)

  • Application: concentrated acids, alkalis, halogens, pigment and dye plants, aggressive solvents, semiconductor fabrication
  • Temperature: −20 °C to +200 °C
  • Advantages: mechanical stability of the ductile iron body, near-universal chemical resistance through the PFA layer, plug additionally PFA-encapsulated
  • Limitations: lining sensitive to mechanical impact, limited for heavily abrasive solids

Sleeve and Sealing Elements

1. PFA Sleeve (Sleeveline Principle)

  • Application: sealing element between plug and body across all Sleeveline series
  • Temperature: up to +200 °C
  • Advantages: self-adjusting, compensates for wear, low breakaway torque, replaceable and low-maintenance
  • Limitations: not resistant to elemental fluorine or molten alkali metals

2. PFA Plug Encapsulation (T4E Series)

  • Application: full encapsulation of the ductile iron plug on the PFA-lined valves
  • Temperature: up to +200 °C
  • Advantages: no metal contact with the medium, non-stick surface prevents crystallisation, high product purity for pharmaceutical and semiconductor duty
  • Limitations: sensitive to impact during installation; special order with surcharge

3. Fire-Safe Secondary Seal (G4Z Series)

  • Application: metallic emergency seat that engages when the PFA sleeve fails under fire
  • Temperature: activated in fire conditions
  • Advantages: maintains shut-off in the event of fire, combinable with TA-Luft approval, essential for refineries, tank farms and ATEX zones
  • Limitations: available only for selected sizes and pressure classes

Fergo plug valves comply with the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and carry the CE mark. The DIN designs follow DIN EN 1092-1, with face-to-face lengths to EN 558-1 series 1 (ISO 5752). The ANSI designs comply with ASME B16.5 Class 150 and Class 300, and face-to-face lengths follow ASME B16.10 — including short pattern versions on selected series. Emission-relevant applications are covered by TA-Luft, and safety-critical service by the Fire Safe designs of the G4Z range.

Inspection documents to EN 10204 — type 2.2 works certificate or type 3.1 inspection certificate — are available on request. A full overview of all certificates is published on the Fergo certificate page. You can verify sleeve compatibility with your medium beforehand using the Fergo resistance check.

Fergo holds more than 25,000 industrial valves in stock. The programme includes over 50 Flowserve Durco plug valves across the G4E, G4Z, G411, G431, T4E1, T4E2 and T4E3 series — with hand lever, gearbox or actuator. Automation with pneumatic or electric actuators is carried out in-house. Orders are picked the same working day.

Fergo ships across Europe — including the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries and all other EU member states. Smaller valves travel by parcel service, whereas heavy flanged versions and consolidated shipments go by forwarding agent. You will find shipping costs, payment options and express terms on the shipping and payment terms page.
