Product Overview

Limit Switch Boxes – Switchmaster and EB300 for Pneumatic Valve Actuators

The limit switch box reports the open and closed position of a valve back to the supervisory control system (PLC/DCS). It is mounted directly on the pneumatic quarter-turn actuator and converts the mechanical rotary movement of the valve into an electrical, inductive or pneumatic signal. Without a limit switch box, the control system consequently does not know whether the valve is actually open or closed. Mounting follows VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) directly on the actuator.

Fergo offers two product lines of limit switch boxes. The Switchmaster series is the premium solution with a Lexan 143 housing (polycarbonate with anti-static coating), IP67, temperature range –20 °C to +70 °C and visual window for remote position verification. Model M2 uses mechanical microswitches with gold-plated contacts, model D2 integrates inductive proximity switches, and model N2 provides pneumatic feedback. All three models are available in ATEX-certified versions. The EB300 series offers nine variants in polypropylene PP, conductive Vestamid and aluminium for standard and ATEX applications with optional stainless steel bridge and double box configuration.

These limit switch boxes are designed for water and gas supply, chemical processing, petrochemicals, food processing, power generation and HVAC. For combination with pneumatic quarter-turn actuators and NAMUR solenoid valves, Fergo delivers pre-assembled automation packages.

01 Switchmaster M2 – Mechanical Microswitches

The Switchmaster M2 uses mechanical microswitches with gold-plated contacts for a voltage range of 4V DC to 250V AC. The Lexan 143 housing with anti-static coating achieves IP67. The transparent cover enables visual position verification from a distance. Cam adjustment is tool-free via eccentric. ATEX versions for Zone 1/2 (gas) and Zone 21/22 (dust) are available. The Switchmaster M2 is consequently the proven solution for standard use in the process industry.

02 Switchmaster D2 – Inductive Proximity Switches

The Switchmaster D2 integrates inductive proximity switches for contactless position detection without mechanical wear. Service life is consequently significantly longer than with mechanical microswitches. The housing, IP67 protection and ATEX options are identical to the M2. The D2 is the preferred choice for applications with high switching frequency and vibration exposure.

03 Switchmaster N2 – Pneumatic Feedback

The Switchmaster N2 provides purely pneumatic end-position feedback without electrical wiring. The pneumatic signal is transmitted directly from the actuator to the control unit. This model is consequently the solution for applications where electrical wiring in the field is not possible or not desired, for example in certain hazardous areas.

04 EB300-PP – Polypropylene Standard

The EB300-PP is a polypropylene limit switch box for standard applications. The compact design, easy mounting and competitive price make it the cost-effective solution for non-hazardous environments. IP67 protection is achieved. End-position switching uses mechanical microswitches.

05 EB300-PE – Polypropylene with Stainless Steel Bridge

The EB300-PE combines a polypropylene housing with a stainless steel bridge for increased mechanical stability at the mounting interface. This model is consequently the choice when a more robust attachment to the actuator is required than the PP standard version provides.

06 EB300-VP – ATEX Conductive Vestamid

The EB300-VP is an ATEX-certified limit switch box made of conductive Vestamid (polyamide 12). The conductive housing ensures dissipation of electrostatic charges in hazardous areas. ATEX certification consequently covers Zone 1/2 (gas) and Zone 21/22 (dust).

07 EB300-AP – ATEX Aluminium

The EB300-AP is an ATEX-certified aluminium limit switch box. The metal housing provides maximum mechanical robustness and heat resistance. ATEX certification covers Zone 1/2 and Zone 21/22. The EB300-AP is consequently the choice for harsh industrial environments with explosion hazard.

08 EB300-VE and EB300-AE – ATEX with Stainless Steel Bridge

The EB300-VE (Vestamid) and EB300-AE (aluminium) combine ATEX-certified housings with a stainless steel bridge for increased mounting stability. The AE variant offers an optional custom bolt pattern. Both are certified for Zone 1/2 and Zone 21/22.

09 EB300-VE-DB and EB300-AE-DB – ATEX Double Boxes

The EB300-VE-DB (Vestamid) and EB300-AE-DB (aluminium) are ATEX-certified double boxes with two separate switching compartments. The dual configuration consequently enables separate wiring of end-position signals and solenoid valve control in a single housing. Both are certified for Zone 1/2 and Zone 21/22.

Materials and Construction of the Limit Switch Boxes

1. Lexan 143 (Switchmaster)

Application: all Switchmaster models M2, D2, N2.
Temperature: –20 °C to +70 °C.
Advantages: the polycarbonate Lexan 143 with anti-static coating provides high impact resistance, transparency for visual position verification and IP67 protection. The colour-coded cam furthermore enables remote reading of the valve position.
Limitations: sensitive to aromatic solvents and concentrated alkalis.

2. Polypropylene PP (EB300-PP, EB300-PE)

Application: standard applications without explosion hazard.
Temperature: –20 °C to +60 °C.
Advantages: low weight, chemical resistance, competitive price and IP67 protection. The PE version with stainless steel bridge furthermore provides increased mounting stability.
Limitations: not ATEX-certified. Not suited for hazardous areas.

3. Conductive Vestamid / Polyamide 12 (EB300-VP, VE, VE-DB)

Application: ATEX areas Zone 1/2 and Zone 21/22.
Temperature: –20 °C to +60 °C.
Advantages: conductive polyamide 12 ensures dissipation of electrostatic charges in hazardous areas. Weight is consequently significantly lower than aluminium with the same ATEX certification.
Limitations: mechanical robustness lower than aluminium. For extreme mechanical loads, the aluminium versions are recommended.

4. Aluminium (EB300-AP, AE, AE-DB)

Application: ATEX areas Zone 1/2 and Zone 21/22 with increased mechanical loading.
Temperature: –20 °C to +70 °C.
Advantages: maximum mechanical robustness, heat resistance and ATEX certification. The aluminium housing furthermore provides increased protection against vandalism and mechanical impact.
Limitations: higher weight and cost than Vestamid versions.

5. Switching Elements – Mechanical, Inductive, Pneumatic

Mechanical (microswitches): gold-plated contacts, 4V DC to 250V AC, proven and cost-effective. Standard for Switchmaster M2 and all EB300 models.
Inductive (proximity switches): contactless detection without wear, high service life, ideal for vibration environments. Standard for Switchmaster D2.
Pneumatic: purely pneumatic signal transmission without electrical wiring. Standard for Switchmaster N2.
All three technologies are consequently available in ATEX versions.

Fergo limit switch boxes comply with the key European standards for valve automation. Mounting follows VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) directly on the pneumatic quarter-turn actuator. IP67 protection complies with EN 60529. The ATEX versions (Switchmaster, EB300-VP, AP, VE, AE, VE-DB, AE-DB) are certified per the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for Zone 1/2 (gas) and Zone 21/22 (dust). CE marking furthermore confirms conformity with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.
